Let’s find out;

Do Huskies Like to Be Held?

As a breed that is playful and tenacious, Huskies like to be held because they see it as the time to get close and bond with their owners. They require more attention, however, you should understand that each Husky has a different personality and the time each wants to be held will vary.

With that in mind, I am sure you are eager to know why these lovely dogs like to be held, and why it should be a routine for both of you.

Why Do Huskies Like to Be Held?

Siberian Huskies like to be held and be cuddled as well despite their age. After a one-hour call with Zack – a seasoned vet in New South Wales Australia, I found out the older the Husky gets, the more they like to be held.

Zack told me that this is because they calm down, relax, and realize that not running around makes their owners happy and brings them close – they’re natural snugglers.

He added that these little creatures do like to be held not because they are anxious or timid but because they want to create a super-strong connection between you and them. This is why they will always want to hang around you.

However, he warned about holding your Husky too much.

Not that it might ruin something but because they need some time to explore the house. Holding Huskies too much will ideally make them lose their confidence and become hard to train.

What do I mean?

That a little bit of holding and cuddling isn’t bad, it should just not be all day. Just show them the love and attention they deserve and allow them to play.

Among other reasons why Huskies will want to be held are:

  • Holding Huskies helps them to calm down: There are times when these little canine friends get hyper and excited. When that happens, holding and cuddling them can act as a gentle reminder to slow things down and relax.
  • Holding or cuddling makes them feel loved: For Huskies, there is nothing better than being held or cuddled. It makes them feel important even in your busy life.
  • Holding Huskies helps you to form a bond with each other: It is the best way to create that strong connection and make them feel that they’re part of you.
  • They love the attention: Holding them will help them know that you’re giving them the attention they deserve.

With all the energy that Huskieshires have, you can forget that they also need a few hours of silence and so if you’ve been wondering whether holding a Husky helps you guys bond, you are right, it does help and it is a great way to bond.

The physical and tender touch you give your Husky literally makes them feel close and understand that they’re part of the family.

With that, I am confident to say that spending a few minutes holding and cuddling your canine friend will make them feel good.

Feel free to hold them while watching your favorite TV show or a movie series like Legends of Tomorrow. Of course, this is not the only way to bond with them, you can create a strong connection by playing, or going for walks too. That will also help them to burn out excess energy and keep them fit.

To cement your bonding, you need to create a schedule for holding and cuddling, exercise, playing, walking, and most importantly, feeding them with quality dog food to have a happy and strong Husky.

How Often Will My Husky Want to Be Held?

Well, there is no specified amount of time that Huskies will want to be held. Their energy and attitude may vary hence some Huskies can’t get enough of being held.

Besides play and exercise, they may want to be held all day but according to Zack, they should be held for at least 30 minutes then set free to go have some fun on their own.

He advised that you must learn and understand your Husky’s moods and attitude, and also be able to sense when they’ve had enough holding and cuddling. Understanding their personality and knowing what works for them is what is likely to make a difference.

Can Kids Hold a Husky?

So you’re asking, can kids hold a Husky?

I will say they can.

Kids love pets and Huskies being so small in size, it will be worth it to have your kids hold the pup. It is great because both will get comfortable with each other, will learn from each other, and also will make them understand that they all belong in the same family.

Note: While it might be good for kids to interact, hold, and cuddle Huskies, it is advisable that you monitor or supervise their every move. It is easy for kids to get rough and the dog can be a bit nippy so what you want to avoid is accidental injuries for both parties.

You are supposed to train your children how they’re supposed to handle dogs and how they should behave when around them. Huskies too need to be well trained and socialized to understand how kids think and how they want to play.

The good news is that Huskies love kids and your children will have a lot of fun.
